What is the difference between logoff and switch user

The Log Out and Switch User entries only appear in the menu if you have more than one user account on your system. When you return, you will see the lock screen. Enter your password to log back in. To lock your screen, click the system menu on the right side of the top bar and select Lock from the menu. When your screen is locked, other users can log in to their own accounts by clicking Log in as another user at the bottom right of the login screen.

You can switch back to your desktop when they are finished. To save power, suspend your computer when you are not using it. If you use a laptop, the system, by default, suspends your computer automatically when you close the lid. A very small amount of power is still used during suspend.

If there are other users logged in, you may not be allowed to power off or restart the computer because this will end their sessions. If you are an administrative user, you may be asked for your password to power off. You may want to power off your computer if you wish to move it and do not have a battery, if your battery is low or does not hold charge well. Tip You can change the function of the Windows 7 Power button from its default of Shut Down to some other function.

Right-click the Windows taskbar and then choose Properties from the shortcut menu that appears to open the Taskbar and Menu Properties dialog box. Note that after selecting a new function for the Power button, Windows displays the new function's name on the button and adds the Shut Down option to the pop-up menu that appears when you click the triangular button to the immediate right of the Power button.

When you click the pop-up button to the immediate right of the Power button, Windows displays a menu with the following items:. When you press these keys in unison, the screen blacks out for a moment before presenting you with a blue-green screen containing the following text options: Lock This Computer, Switch User, Log Off, Change a Password, and Start Task Manager. When you click the pop-up button to the immediate right of the Power button, Windows displays a menu with the following items: Switch User: Switches to another user account on the computer without closing your open programs and Windows processes.

Log Off: Switches to another user account on the computer after closing all of your open programs and Windows processes. If your classroom machines are on an Active Directory Domain Services network, you can do this using Group Policy and also prevent users from changing it back.
