I have been working in IT for several years now as an IT supervisor and project management. I feel that I am losing my technical skills due to the work that applies to my career. I am conducting the first module for certrification of cisco by the Knowledge Ship via internet and some preparatory courses on the Udemy platform. I was employed for over 20 years in computer and IT work, primarily at an insurance company, before moving away from the IT field almost completely for about the last 12 years to be involved with my extended families business projects and my children.
My children now ages 20 and 27 have become adults and I am at a place in the families brewery where I can largely delegate some of my responsibilities to other workers who want them. I think I want to be employed working with networks again. For whatever reason I really enjoy it and I miss it. My work schedule has finally become more flexible and I have time to spend more on myself.
I found my mind gravitating back to network engineering and so I picked up an old CCNA book that I have from and remembered how much I enjoy this! I have to be honest and say I would be a little nervous jumping back into a complex job like this I remember some very stressful all-nighters from my work before but I still love to learn things and I'm hoping I can make my way through these two giant books and still understand it all!
Eventually I would love to work for or with someone who knows more than myself so that I can learn more from their experience. I've been reviewing and trying to remember and use flash cards as I go but it's taking me some time.
Studying is hard to keep up with sometimes. I like to understand things thoroughly and not just breeze by things. Any advice, guidance, or even mentoring about studying or my career goals would be helpful and I am open to hearing it.
